Monitoring
Ping monitoring: is the server there?
A ping tells you whether a host is reachable at all, with no web server or open port required. FrogStatus sends it at a regular interval and alerts you when it stops answering.

How it works
- 1
Add the host
Enter a host name or a public IP address and choose the ping type.
- 2
Set the interval
Pick how often to ping, within the minimum of your plan.
- 3
Connect an alert
Choose where the alert goes. It can repeat until the host answers again.
What you get
No service needed
Works on any host that answers ICMP, even if it runs no web server.
Round-trip time
Every ping records how long the answer took, so you can see the network slow down before it fails.
A first layer of diagnosis
If ping fails and the site fails too, look at the server or the network. If only the site fails, look at the application.
Same alerts as the rest
It uses the same channels, repeat reminders and recovery notices as every other monitor.
Where it helps
Servers and VPS
Know when a machine stops answering, before the services on it are missed.
Routers and gateways
Watch devices with a public address that run no web interface.
Reachability from outside
Confirm that a host can be reached from the internet, not just from your own network.
Questions
Why does ping fail when the site works?
Many firewalls and hosting providers block ICMP on purpose. In that case monitor the port or the website instead.
What does a ping check measure?
Whether the host answers and how long the round trip takes.
Can I ping a private IP address?
No. Private and internal addresses are blocked; only public targets can be checked from our probes.
