MX lookup
Enter a domain to see which servers receive its email, in the order senders try them (lowest priority number first), together with the IP addresses of each mail server. The name you type is sent to our server only to make the query.
Questions
What does the MX priority mean?
Senders try the server with the lowest number first and move to the next only if it is unreachable. Servers with the same number share the load.
Why check a domain’s MX records?
To confirm that mail is routed where you expect after setting up a provider such as Google Workspace or Microsoft 365, or to find out why messages to a domain bounce.
What if a domain has no MX records?
By the email standard, senders then fall back to the domain’s own A or AAAA record. Many domains that do not use email publish a null MX to say so explicitly.
Why does a mail server have no IP address?
The MX record points to a name, and that name must itself have an A or AAAA record. If it has none, mail to the domain cannot be delivered, which is a common configuration mistake.
